Dr. Dre made his first on screen appearance as a weapons dealer in the 1996 bank robbery movie Set It Off. In 2001, Dr. Dre also appeared in the movies The Wash and Training Day. His song, "Bad Intentions" (featuring Knoc-Turn'Al) and produced by Mahogany, was featured on The Wash soundtrack. Dr. Dre also appeared on two other songs "On the Blvd." and "The Wash" along with his co-star Snoop Dogg.
In February 2007 Dr. Dre led Crucial Films to produce dark comedies and horror films in association with New Line Cinema, along with longtime video director Phillip Atwell. Dre felt it was a natural switch for him, since he directed scores of music videos, and enjoyed film production and directing.
Along with fellow N.W.A member Ice Cube, Dr. Dre led Crucial Films in the production of Straight Outta Compton (2015), the biographical film about N.W.A. Straight Outta Compton grossed $161.2 million in the United States and Canada and $40.4 million in other territories for a worldwide total of $201.6 million. According to Deadline Hollywood, the net profit of the film was an estimated $91.1 million, when factoring together all expenses and revenues for the film.
In April of 2016, Dre, as a member of N.W.A, was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
